Well-Mannered & Traditional. Born an offspring of the Mayuzumi namesake, Shion has been brought up conforming to the most traditional of Japanese manners. Although the friends she made in school throughout her teenage years eventually relaxed her from the strict teachings she received, she did not dare shake off the habit of being polite all the time. Never does she call someone without honorifics - if she calls a male friend by '-kun', then they're already good friends.
Gentle & Reserved. Shion is soft-spoken by nature, and though as a lonely single child she is clueless as to how to take care of others, she is caring in her own little way. As for her own thoughts and feelings, she tends to keep them to herself so that she does not trouble others.
Sheltered & Gullible. As the much protected daughter of a wealthy single father, Shion never did excel at grocery shopping or detecting lies. Fortunately, over the years she has learned of her lack in this compartment, though even after much pondering she can never be too certain whether she's getting things right. She tries to do her best, but sometimes there are just a few loose screws...
Desires Independence. She can be a bit stubborn when something does seem to matter. At first it had seemed impossible to her - or rather, she did not even notice that freedom existed in a form foreign to her mind. Slowly she came to realization that as a person she needed to be independent, as life at the university began. Things like learning how to cook, traveling to unfamiliar places by herself, and making friends with strangers - these are all things she's quietly working on. Working for her own money is still a discussion between her and her father, however.

The family of Mayuzumi has always been artistically inclined throughout the generations, nesting many talented literary authors and masters of the classical arts. Although Shion's father was brought up in such an atmosphere of traditional endeavours, he slowly revealed to be an oddball. A businessman he became - although to the opposition of none, since he made good money. Having married a woman he desired, he lost her in that same year. Shion didn't know how, but she never asked, seeing the way her father becomes quiet every time her mother was mentioned.
Throughout her growth she has always been a lonely child at home, the one owned by her father apart from the relatives. And though she was popular in the private schools she attended, her reserved nature brought her to only a few good friends - all of which were girls. Along the way there were a couple of boys she liked, but she always evaded their confrontations. Occasionally her father would bring her out to meet his friends at business parties, but she never did make friends there that actually lasted. To pass time by herself, she read, painted, and practiced various musical instruments - most of all, the koto - in a rather quiet household.
Familiar in most of the arts, she only had a particular fascination for Japanese Literature due to an unspoken childhood crush she had on her uncle, who was a writer and literary researcher. And at the end of highschool, that's what she decided to pursue.
Upon entering university, she began to open up more. As a freshman she was shy and perhaps a little awkward, but she has been adjusting better - ready to start her second year.
